Official company policy for hiring felons

When we asked Eastridge about their policy for hiring felons, this was the response they gave:

“I’m sorry to inform you that Eastridge does not place felons.”

We know that is not the answer you wanted to hear, but don’t despair! More recently the company has posted this on Indeed about their hiring practices for former offenders:

“Eastridge Workforce Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Eastridge has an ongoing commitment to hire, develop, recruit and assign the best and most qualified individuals possible. Criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment with Eastridge. Eastridge will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with fair chance hiring and all other applicable laws.

Have they hired felons in the past?

Eastridge did not say whether they have hired felons in the past, but we’ve seen reports online that they have in fact hired people with felony records before.

Does Eastridge hire people with misdemeanors?

We could not find specific information about whether or not Eastridge has hired those with misdemeanors in the past. However, we think there is an average chance that they will.

To be honest with you, there is much less stigma behind hiring those with misdemeanors. Employers — and society as a whole — seems to be more likely to write misdemeanors off as “mistakes.”

Is that fair? No, but it’s the reality.

Will Eastridge hire you with pending charges?

We didn’t see anything that would stop you from being hired if you have pending charges, besides your potential conviction compromising the role they’re trying to fit you with. And the company will avoid that!

What are the chances of Eastridge hiring a felon?

Is Eastridge on the Ban the Box list?

No they’re not. Have you heard of the Ban the Box campaign and the Fair Chance Business Pledge before?

Ban the Box is a nationwide movement that has worked to convince many companies to remove all criminal history questions from their application. This lets former felons get their foot a little further in the door.

The Fair Chance Pledge is a movement that encourages employers to get rid of some of the barriers that former felons face when looking for employment.

Eastridge has not removed criminal history questions from their application.

Does Eastridge have any special programs for hiring felons?

Eastridge does not have any special programs in place for hiring felons. However, always check with your local workforce centers and job placement agencies. These places are well aware of the barriers that former felons face when looking for work and will let you know who is hiring in your area.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

Uncertain likelihood of hiring felons

We think your odds are uncertain that you will get a job at Eastridge with a felony. We’ve heard conflicting evidence that the company has an open-minded stance on this, which makes it tricky to pin down. There are growing reports online in recent years that they have hired former offenders whose records aren’t an added barrier..

What are some entry-level jobs?

Eastridge’s job portal shows us that they are a hiring group that places employees with businesses. The task of hiring can be tedious and time consuming for many businesses, so they outsource this process to groups like Eastridge. Because of this, they have a wide range of jobs available across many fields.

Here are some of their entry-level jobs we saw:

  •         Customer service representative
  •         Order selectors
  •         Carpenter
  •         General laborer

We also saw many jobs that you may be qualified for if you took some trade classes. Some of these include plumbers, maintenance specialists, assemblers and HVAC installers.

These are some great entry- and intermediate-level jobs. Since this is a hiring agency, their hiring needs will depend on the businesses they work with.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Eastridge posts their jobs online and requires all applications be submitted through their online portal. In our research, we’ve found that candidates who meet the requirements usually then undergo a phone interview. If that is successful, an in-person interview is scheduled at one of their locations.

It is important to consider your resume and overall skills before applying for any job. To that end, we want you to know that you can create a great resume even with your criminal record. Go check out this article about how to make a resume for former felons.

You will be asked to submit your resume or application through the online portal when you apply.

You may not realize just how valuable the prison jobs you’ve held are to real-world work environments. Think about these common prison jobs:

  •         Clerk
  •         Librarian
  •         Dorm worker
  •         Landscaper
  •         Kitchen worker
  •         Maintenance

These jobs taught you more than you know. As a clerk or librarian, you had to develop and use interpersonal skills regularly. Communicating with prison guards, other staff and inmates is not easy to do all day! As a maintenance or kitchen worker, not only did you learn valuable skills, but you developed a good work ethic.

Don’t let your past crimes define who you are now. Learn from your mistakes and use the valuable skills you’ve gained to your advantage. And, if Eastridge doesn’t hire you because of your background, there are other placement agencies that can help.

Does Eastridge do background checks?

While Eastridge didn’t give us any information regarding background checks, we found through our research that this depends on the client they are hiring for.

In many of the job descriptions, it says that background checks will be performed if a conditional offer of employment is made.

Here’s what you need to know about background checks:

There are many states that don’t even look at offenses that are more than seven years old. This is great news if you live in one of the following states:

  •       California
  •       Colorado*

  •       Nevada

  •       New York*
  •       Texas*
  •       Washington*

*sometimes certain pay or salary bracket positions require one.

Many states don’t show the charges you’ve been found not guilty of. These states are:

  •       Alaska
  •       California
  •       Hawaii
  •       Indiana
  •       Kentucky
  •       Massachusetts
  •       Michigan
  •       New York

Then there are the states that show everything. They show both guilty and not guilty verdicts, and there is no time limit. Here are those states:

  •       Alabama
  •       Arizona
  •       Arkansas
  •       Connecticut
  •       DC
  •       Delaware
  •       Florida
  •       Idaho
  •       Indiana
  •       Iowa
  •       Louisiana
