Sadly, we can’t answer this question at this time. There just isn’t enough information to point one way or another.
Is 24 Hour Fitness on the Ban the Box list?
24 Hour Fitness isn’t on the Ban the Box list. This is a list of companies that have agreed to remove the checkbox from their applications asking about prior convictions in an effort to hire primarily based on work history and skills. However, we filled out one of their online applications and while there’s no questions asking about your criminal history, you do have to agree to submit to a background check.
They haven’t taken the Fair Chance Business Pledge, either. This pledge states that employers will give convicted felons a second chance in the workforce. Despite that, although as we found out earlier, they comply with the Fair Chance laws of San Francisco and Los Angeles.

So, while they don’t ask about your criminal history on their job applications, the background check they do might trip you up.
However, the company actively follows fair chance hiring laws in California, so your odds will be even better there.
What are some entry-level jobs?
The entry-level jobs at 24 Hour Fitness include personal trainer and service expert. The personal trainer holds group exercise classes and takes on private clients. A service expert keeps the gym and all of its machines and equipment orderly and clean while assisting members.

We see from their application that they will do a background check. You must agree to it at the beginning of the hiring process.
Here’s what you need to know about background checks:
Background checks can vary from state to state. For example, if you live in one of these states, they only go back seven years:
- New Hampshire*
- New York*
(* sometimes certain pay or salary bracket positions require one.)
And these eight states won’t see any cases where you were found not guilty:
- Indiana (limited check)
- New York
Be aware, however, if your state is on this next list. They are able to see your entire record, including those not guilty verdicts:
- Indiana (extensive check)
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- West Virginia
We checked out the 24 Hour Fitness glassdoor.com page to see their ratings. They have 3.3 out of 5 possible stars. The free gym memberships and great work environments are highlighted as positives for the company, while the low pay is viewed as the biggest negative.
