What are the chances of 7-Eleven hiring a felon?

Is 7-Eleven on the Ban the Box list?

Are you aware that Ban the Box is designed to help convicted felons find employment? Yes! Their purpose is to give people with a criminal record a fighting chance at employment by getting employers to look at abilities instead of convictions. The campaign urges employers to remove all questions about criminal records from their applications.

There was nothing we found that indicated 7-Eleven supports Ban the Box. But that’s okay! They don’t ask about previous convictions on their applications, anyway.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is a similar initiative. This is a vow made by companies to practice fair hiring practices for everyone, including those with felony convictions.

7-Eleven wasn’t found to participate in the Fair Chance Business Pledge, either. However, as we previously stated, 7-Eleven does support other initiatives that are similar. One of those initiatives supported is the Fair Chance Initiative/Ordinance. Be mindful that that 7-Eleven is a franchise, so this means each store is owned individually. This means the hiring process may differ from store-to-store.

Does 7-Eleven have special programs for hiring felons?

No, they don’t.

What are some entry-level jobs?

We were able to find a variety of positions that are deemed entry-level at 7-Eleven. The ones you should know about are:

  • Sales Associate
  • Store Employee
  • Food Service Associate

These positions all require basic skills, such as providing outstanding customer service, cleaning, stocking shelves, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to operate a register. A high school diploma/GED and good communication skills are also required for all of these jobs.

7-Eleven also offers corporate jobs and management positions. So if you have more specific abilities or experience, you may want to look over these positions as well.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

We recommend you start with your resume. Our guide offers great tips on how to spice up your resume so all your customer service skills are highlighted. Once you’ve had your resume looked over by a fresh set of eyes, you are ready to begin the application process.

You should know that 7-Eleven does not require a resume, but we suggest you still have one to help you fill out the application. They ask things for a reason, so try not to leave anything blank. If something does not apply to you, simply mark it with N/A (not applicable). By filling in every blank, you’re showing attention to detail and also helps prevent you from overlooking something.

The interview process will be the last step. When arriving for your interview, we recommend you get there 10-15 minutes early. It shows good work ethic!

We would advise that you bring a copy of your resume to the interview for the interviewer. Make sure you are prepared to ask a few questions. Most companies like it when applicants ask questions because it shows interest in the position.

7-Eleven does not ask about previous convictions on their application, so the interview is the best possible time to address them (before a background check is done). Make your past a strength. Let them see that, even though you’ve made mistakes, you are using your record as a stepping stone, not a crutch.
