What are the chances of American Family Insurance hiring a felon?

Is AmFam on the Ban the Box list?

As part of our research, we look to see if a company is part of the Ban the Box campaign or the Fair Chance Business Pledge. These initiatives have pushed for more inclusion of those with a record in the workplace.

Ban the Box encourages companies and government agencies to remove criminal history questions from their applications. The Pledge works with employers to give former felons more opportunities within the company or agency.

AmFam is not part of either campaign, but they do not ask about your criminal history on their application.

Uncertain likelihood of hiring felons

That is a good sign that there may be opportunities at AmFam for those with a record.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Alright, let’s find out how to get a job at American Family Insurance with a felony. As with most larger companies now, the application process for AmFam is done completely online. When you find a position you think you’re a good fit for, click apply. Just so you know, you’ll be asked to upload a resume before you begin.

What, you don’t have a resume? Let’s stop for a minute and talk about that.

We created a guide that will help you make a great resume, regardless of your background. We realize that former felons need to get a little creative when it comes to resume building, but we know you have experience. Aside from jobs in the real world you’ve held, you can consider the things you did in prison as experience as well.

Most prisons require a person to have a job. You may have held one or more of the following:

  • Kitchen worker
  • Chapel staff
  • Landscaping job
  • Various clerk positions
  • Building maintenance jobs
  • And more

When you hold a prison job, you’re interacting with both inmates and prison staff. This often requires patience as well as negotiation skills. These jobs are performed under pressure and you should consider them as experience you can use in real-world jobs. How about self-improvement or vocation classes? Did you get your GED or learn a trade? This can all be included on a resume.

When you get a resume built, go ahead and upload it to the AmFam application. When you click submit, you need to start preparing for an interview. You want to be ready when they call you back.

Here are some basic interview questions that hiring managers ask that you can prepare for:

  • Why do you want to work for AmFam?
  • What work experience do you have?
  • Do you know anything about AmFam?
