B&D Enterprises specializes in repairing and servicing underground pipes. For the person with the right skill set, it’s an excellent way to get employment . . . but does B&D Enterprises hire felons?
If you have a felony on your record, you know that finding a job can be very tricky. At Successful Release, we try to make your job search a little bit less intimidating. To do this, we go directly to employers to ask them about their hiring policies for former felons.
We also research companies further to ask a range of questions that are important to people looking for work. Here are some of the topics we will cover today:
Read on to learn more about B&D’s hiring policies.
As always, we reached out to the company directly to find out if they have any policies against hiring former felons.
They said:
“We are just open to all people looking for employment.”
As far as company responses go, this is about as good as you can hope for.
When we asked them about it, their answer was pretty simple: They are willing to hire people with records.
The good news is that sources agree. They have a history of hiring former felons.
We also asked the company if they will hire candidates with misdemeanors. Their reply was another simple yes.
The Ban the Box movement is an organized effort to remove questions about a candidate’s criminal history from job applications.
There is also the Fair Chance Business Pledge, where companies make a promise to hire without discrimination.
Unfortunately, B&D Enterprises is not associated with either movement. In fact, they told us directly that they do ask about criminal records on their job applications.
Considering the company’s general attitude towards hiring former felons, this isn’t necessarily a barrier. More on that later!
We also asked B&D Enterprises if they have any special programs that make the hiring process for former felons a little bit easier.
They said that they do not currently have any special programs. However, they also reemphasized that they are open to hiring felons so it is clear that their attitude toward the topic is very accepting.
To review, B&D Enterprises has directly told us that they are open to hiring former felons. They have a proven history of doing exactly that, and they are equally open to hiring people with misdemeanors.
Granted, it is also true that they ask about criminal records on their job applications, and they don’t have any special programs for hiring people with convictions.
So what’s our final answer? Based on everything we know, we think the chances of qualified candidates getting hired here are high!
Now that you know it’s possible to get a job B&D Enterprises with a felony, here are a few of their entry-level jobs.
This is a pipe repair company and as such pretty much all of the jobs that they have revolve around this. The company is based out of Winter Springs, Florida, but their repair work may take place over a broader area.
Due to the nature of the work, you may keep odd hours. In the event of an emergency situation, it’s possible that employees will be expected to do urgent repair, day or night.
A good job application is always at the heart of the hiring process. If you want to get a job at B&D Enterprises with a felony, begin by crafting an outstanding resume.
As you go about doing this, don’t hesitate to ask for help. Resume writing is an art form, and it can always help to have an extra pair of eyes on your work before you send it out. If there is no one in your life qualified to help you, consider going to a career center. They will have professionals there who can help you draft a great application and even prepare for the interview.
B&D Enterprises will favor candidates with experience in pipe cleaning, maintenance and repairs. Highlight times you’ve worked with heavy tools or training you had in this or a related field. For example, work in plumbing or even as a handy-person may be relevant.
The renovation you helped with on your cousin’s bathroom is also worth mentioning.
The company will ask you about your criminal record in their application, remember. It’s best to answer these questions as truthfully as possible. While the company is very open to hiring people with records, they may be a little bit less so if it comes to light that you weren’t honest with them.
Once you nail the application, you will be called in for an interview. For this part of the process, you should make a point of showing up looking as professional as possible. Cover tattoos and piercings until you can ask about their policy.
Beyond that, you should just try to be natural. If you have been called into the interview, it means they think you are a good candidate. Your job now is simply to prove them right!
B&D Enterprises does do background checks. They told us that their background checks happen after a job offer has been extended, but before the hire has been finalized.
A criminal record does not end your chances of getting hired, but it may lead to follow-up questions.
Different states have different approaches to how they perform their background checks.
For example, if you live in any of these locations, businesses will only be able to look seven years into your past:
*Certain pay brackets may experience heightened background checks*
Perhaps even better, businesses in the following states will not see any information about things you were found not guilty of:
Unfortunately, though, there are also many states that reveal everything in their background checks, including not guilty verdicts. See the list here:
We also went online to see what it’s like to work at B&D Enterprises. To do this, we looked at their company ratings on indeed.com. The company had a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars. Their highest rating was 2.5 for compensation. Their lowest rating was 2.2 for advancement opportunities.
Even though the company is very open to hiring former felons, it’s still possible that some felonies will stand in your way.
For instance, because the work may involve heavy tools and equipment, they might not look kindly on substance abuse offenses. And, because the work is very collaborative, they may also be reluctant to hire people with violent or sexual offenses on their record.
According to the company itself, they do screen for drugs before finalizing a hire.
If you have experience with this company, we want to hear about it. Does B&D Enterprises hire felons? Did our guide help you figure out how to get hired at B&D Enterprises? Tell us everything you know so we can keep our information up-to-date!
