EMCOR Group is a large engineering and construction company. Many people looking for work turn to them for employment, but does EMCOR Group hire felons?
At Successful Release, we understand that there are many questions like that floating through your mind as you try to find work. Our job is to answer those questions for you.
To do this, we go directly to the source and personally ask the companies we profile about their hiring policies. We do this with a staff filled with former convicts and other experts on the job market.
In addition to covering these important questions, we also examine other key considerations such as:
So, let’s get to it, shall we?
We did reach out to EMCOR Group to find out what their official policies were for hiring felons. Unfortunately, they have not yet responded to our questions. We will continue to try to make contact until we can update our guide with their official response.
Unfortunately, we have not found information on their policy for hiring former felons. We’ll continue looking, but for now, there’s not much we can say for certain.
We haven’t found any evidence that the company has hired former felons in the past. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they haven’t — it just means we can’t confirm that they have.
Unfortunately, this is another question that we haven’t been able to find an answer to. We didn’t see any evidence that the company has hired someone with misdemeanors in the past.
Ban the Box is a movement that works to keep questions having to do with criminal records off of job applications. The idea is to allow candidates to be considered based on their work history instead of past mistakes.
There is also the Fair Chance Business Pledge. Businesses that take the Fair Chance Business Pledge make a promise not to discriminate in their hiring practices.
EMCOR has not participated in either movement. While this isn’t great news, it doesn’t really hurt your chances. Many companies that haven’t joined either initiative are willing to hire people with felonies.
From what we can tell, EMCOR doesn’t have any.
As you’ve probably noticed, we just don’t know a ton about how this company approaches hiring former felons. They haven’t responded to our requests for information, we can’t tell if they’ve hired former felons and they don’t participate in the Fair Chance Business Pledge or the Ban the Box Movement.
Based on what we know, it’s only fair to say that your chances of getting hired are uncertain. While this may be a little bit disappointing to hear, it’s not necessarily bad news. There are a lot of uncertainties and it’s very possible that when we hear from the company we will be able to upgrade your chances.
Most of the jobs at EMCOR Group have an emphasis on construction or engineering. For example, they hire electricians, plumbers, engineers, HVAC operators and carpenters.
There are lots of different kinds of opportunities for all types of handiwork, but specific careers will depend on where you are. The hours and scheduling details are also largely location based.
Because we know so little about EMCOR Group’s hiring policies, it’s particularly important that you submit a good application. Most people struggle a little bit with their resume writing, but you can make sure yours pops by getting a little bit of help.
It’s worth your time to have a friend or family member look over your application before you send it out. There are also career centers that can give you professional tips on your resume.
As you craft the perfect application, make sure you highlight any relevant experience you can think of. If you’ve ever worked in the construction or engineering industries, that experience may be what helps you get the job.
If not, try to show ways that other jobs you’ve had reflect the skills that they’re looking for here. If you’ve ever had to use tools or do other manual labor in a job before, these will be good things to mention.
Once you submit a good application, you’ll be called in for an interview. This part of the process is usually nerve-racking, but with some preparation, you can really wow them.
Career centers aren’t just for resumes. They’re a great way to get ready for an interview as well! Not only can they give you a practice interview, but they may even be able to ask the same sorts of questions that EMCOR Group will ask.
If you don’t have access to that resource, you can at least sit down with a friend and go over questions that might come up. Seriously, this can help!
The idea is to show up feeling as comfortable as possible. Be confident! They called you in for the interview because they think you’re a good fit for the job. The goal now is simply to show them that they were right.
EMCOR Group does do background checks.
However, that can mean different things depending on where you live.
There are some states that only look seven years into your past, for example. Here are those states:
There are also some states that won’t look into things you were found not guilty of. In the following states, EMCOR will only learn about your convictions:
Unfortunately, though, some states include everything in your background check. If you live in one of these places, EMCOR will see everything, including things that you were found not guilty of:
We also went online to find out what it is like to work for EMCOR Group. At glassdoor.com, the company has a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. Their highest rating was 3.9 for compensation and benefits. The lowest was 3.2 for senior management.
Because most of the jobs at this company require the operation of heavy tools and machinery, it’s safe to say that they won’t look kindly upon substance abuse convictions. However, if your substance abuse offenses were minor, or if you’ve taken observable steps towards rehabilitation, it’s possible that the company will be willing to work with you a little bit. Theft and violent crimes may also be barriers on your road to getting hired.
Sometimes companies are more open to hiring people with older offenses, so that might weigh in here. The severity of the crime may also determine if it’s possible to get a job at EMCOR Group with a felony.
It looks like EMCOR Group will drug test before they finalize their hiring decisions. Additionally, they also reserve the right to issue random drug tests if they feel it’s necessary. With these things in mind, it’s a good idea to make sure that you can pass their tests at any time.
