What are the chances of Navajo Express hiring a felon?

Is Navajo Express on the Ban the Box list?

The Ban the Box campaign is a group created by civil rights groups and advocates for ex-offenders. This campaign strives to get employers to remove the check box asking if applicants have a criminal record. The purpose is to give ex-offenders the opportunity to display their skills in the hiring process before being asked about their criminal history.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge represents those committing to improve their communities by eliminating obstacles for those with a criminal history, but instead are paving a path for second chances. The Pledge represents a call-to-action for all members of the private sector to improve their communities by eliminating barriers for those with a criminal record and creating a pathway for a second chance.

Unfortunately, Navajo Express isn’t a supporter of either of these initiatives, but that’s okay because we already know they will hire a former felon. They will also ask about criminal history on their job applications, where it’s applicable.

Let’s keep reading to see what is recommended on how to get hired at Navajo Express with a felony.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Navajo Express told us they will hire you with a felony conviction, but there are a few things you will need to be prepared for:

Research — Research the company to see what jobs they have that interest you. Make sure the job you chose is one that you are qualified for. Also, we recommend looking at their guidelines for those who have a criminal history. An individual with little or no experience has a chance at getting hired here . . . even with a criminal record.

Application — Applications, as we all know, can be intimidating — but that’s why we’re here to help. Here are some suggestions to remember when filling out an application.

  1. Make sure you have time set aside to complete the application properly. You don’t want to rush through the application, because rushing can lead to errors.
  2. Take care not to leave anything blank. Putting a simple N/A (not applicable) in a blank lets the employer know that it doesn’t apply to you.
  3. Provide as much information as possible when it comes to past employment. Skills, experience and contact information should be up-to-date.
  4. If you are asked about your criminal history, be honest! Chances are if they’re asking they are going to conduct a background check anyway.

Resume — You’re not sure your resume is done correctly? We can help in this area too! We have an entire article set aside just for the resume. We’ll show you some different ways to include all your experience and skills that associate with the position you’re applying for.

Interview — Interviews can cause the most confident person to be nervous. If you remember a few key points you will do fine.

  1. Arrive early. Being prompt is something all employers look for.
  2. Smile often. A smile makes you memorable in a positive way.
  3. Remember your manners and upbeat personality, these too can make a lasting impression.
  4. Be honest about your background. This is your opportunity to explain the circumstances of your past, so take advantage of it! Let them know how you’ve learned and grown from the situation. Letting them see the positive side will help you.

Does Navajo Express do background checks?
