Is Progressive on the Ban the Box list?

There is more support for former felons looking for work as more people become aware of the difficulties they face finding a job. Two examples are: The Ban the Box campaign and the Fair Chance Business Pledge. These resources were created with the former felon in mind.

The Ban the Box campaign’s desire is to make the job pursuit equal for those with previous convictions. Employers must remove all questions concerning criminal convictions from their applications if they’re on the list. This means all applicants have a chance at securing employment based on abilities and skills.

Employers who are committed to fair hiring practices for everyone — including those with a criminal record — sign The Fair Chance Business Pledge.

Progressive doesn’t support Ban the Box or the Pledge. This isn’t a deal breaker, though. They don’t have to support these initiatives to be able to hire you with a felony!

Does Progressive have special programs for hiring felons?

No, they don’t. But there are other ways to get a job at Progressive with a felony.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

Low likelihood of hiring felons

If you are applying at Progressive with a felony, the odds of you being hired are low. One source online said a former felon has a chance to be hired, depending on how recent the conviction is. However, there was nothing we found that shows they’ve hired someone with a criminal conviction — even if it was over 10 years old.

How to get hired at Progressive with a felony

What are some entry-level jobs?

Due to the nature of the company, most of their positions aren’t entry-level. You’ll need specific skills to get most of these jobs! However, you could still work in customer service at one of their call centers.

As expected, the work is done on a computer and often using a headset. You’d be assisting customers with their policies and questions, as well as making changes to their policies. You’d need customer service or sales experience, computer skills, and excellent communication skills.

What felonies Progressive will not hire

Their online application form includes the question, “Have you ever been convicted of a felony involving breach of trust or dishonesty, for which you have not received a waiver from a state Department of Insurance? Examples include fraud, theft, robbery, burglary, perjury, passing bad checks, embezzlement. You should also answer “yes” to this question even if the felony conviction was later expunged.” While they do not explicitly state this will disqualify you, it is a pretty strong indication that it will.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

We created a mock profile to peek at their application — we want you to be prepared! Well, when filling out the application, the second question was:

When we answered yes, we were sent a message that told us that we were ineligible for employment with Progressive. So yes, we would say that there are some felonies that will give you a heck of a time if you apply here.

Does Progressive hire sex offenders?

Unsure. There was nothing specific about this on their website or application. Most companies approach this on a case-by-case basis and treat it similarly to any other results found on a criminal background check.

Does Progressive drug test?

Yes. Progressive will require you to submit to a drug screen in order to be considered for employment.
