What are the chances of Regis Salons hiring a felon?

Is Regis Salons on the Ban the Box list?

No, Regis Salons isn’t a supporter of Ban the Box. But, what is Ban the Box, you ask?

The Ban the Box Campaign is a resource that was designed to assist former felons in finding jobs. It’s used to persuade employers to remove all questions concerning criminal backgrounds. By doing so, the employer is only able to see the applicant’s experience and skills, which gives the applicant an equal chance at being hired as those without criminal records.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is another initiative created with the former felon in mind. If an employer is agreeing to commit to fair hiring practices for everyone — including those with a criminal history — they sign the Pledge.

We took the time to fill out an application just so we could see if they asked about criminal history. And guess what? They don’t!

Even though Regis Salons doesn’t support either of these resources, they can still hire you. Supporting these initiatives isn’t required in order for a company to be able to hire you with a felony!

Does Regis Salons have special programs for hiring felons?

Regis Salons doesn’t offer these special programs, but most companies don’t.

However, we do have some helpful pointers to show you how to get a job at Regis Salons with a felony. So, let’s get to them!

What are some entry-level jobs?

Their entry-level position is a stylist-in-training. This position is pretty much a 90-day probationary period. In these 90 days, you will gain on-the-job experience for styling, cutting and coloring hair. In order to become an actual stylist with Regis Salon, you’ll need to obtain your license during this time frame.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

There are always a few things to keep in mind when you are applying for any job. Here are a few good things to remember when applying with Regis Salons:

  1. Their application is available online and is pretty straightforward. Make sure to fill everything in and give as many details as you can. And, if you have any references, make sure to list them.

Remember: Client referrals are key! It would be great if someone whose hair you’ve done would agree to give you a shout-out — or, as you’d say on the application, a testimonial or referral.

  2. Your resume needs to include any previous experience you have working in a shop or doing hair. Even if you were just shampooing, make sure you include this. Also be sure to include any certificates or certification you have in this field. If you were an aide in cosmetology while incarcerated, this counts too!

Need help with your resume? No problem. Check out our section dedicated to the resume for some advice on highlighting your skills.

  3. Your interview is going to be the best opportunity to discuss your background. We’re not sure if they will do a background check, so it’s best for you to address it first. Also, this gives you the upper hand and allows you to explain the situation and your growth.

What felonies Regis Salons will not hire

There are bound to be charges that the company will not want associated with them, but they haven’t told us what they are.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

There may be a few convictions that may have a harder time getting hired here. Here are a few we think may cause you problems:

  • Since this is a field based on customers and interacting with the customers, any violent crime may be frowned upon.
  • Any theft or fraudulent use of a credit card will probably be something that gets a closer look. Hair salons have access to expensive hair products, tools and customers’ credit cards.

Does Regis Salons hire sex offenders?

This is something we don’t know. Regis Salons didn’t say, and there are no online reports for or against the company for hiring sex offenders.

Does Regis Salons drug test?

While looking at our online sources, there were some saying yes and there were others saying no. This may depend on the location at which you are applying. However, when you are actively seeking a job, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for a drug screen . . . just in case.
