What are the chances of TransAm Trucking hiring a felon?

Is TransAm Trucking on the Ban the Box list?

The Ban the Box Movement is an initiative to remove questions about criminal records from job applications. The idea is that candidates will have a better chance if they can be judged on their skills instead of their past mistakes.

There is also the Fair Chance Business Pledge that helps people get second chances at work. With this movement, businesses make a point of promising that they will not discriminate in their hiring policies.

Unfortunately, TransAm Trucking is not involved in either. Red flag? Not really. Many businesses that hire felons do not participate in these movements.

Does TransAm Trucking have special programs for hiring felons?

Some companies will have special programs that are designed to streamline the hiring process for people with criminal records. For example, there are some businesses that make a special point of hiring people who are on parole.

These programs greatly improve your odds but they are also hard to come by. We’re sad to say that TransAm trucking doesn’t have any.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

High likelihood of hiring felons

So, what do we know? We know that TransAm trucking is open to hiring former felons and that they seem to have done it in the past. However, we also know that they are not involved in the Ban the Box movement and they do not have any special programs for hiring felons.

That said, we think it would be fair to say that your chances are high for the industry.

If you’re not sure of your odds, you can always try a few other trucking companies that might be more felon-friendly here.

How to get hired at TransAm Trucking with a felony

What are some entry-level jobs?

Now we know it is possible to get a job at TransAm Trucking with a felony, but what kind of jobs are we talking about?

They have two major types of careers. Either you can work as a mechanic or a driver. You can expect fairly standard hours as a mechanic. While they may be open all or most days, there probably won’t be night shifts.

However, trucking hours are a little different. You may or may not wind up working evenings. For more information, you can always contact the company directly to find out about their hours of operation.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Before you can get a job at TransAm Trucking with a felony, you will first need to nail the job application. Resume writing is notoriously difficult, but there are ways that you can simplify the process. For example, you may find some luck having a friend or even a career center take a look at your application.

No matter what though, you will want to make a point of highlighting your skills, especially as they relate to the job that you are applying for. If you’re looking into a driving position, any job involving transportation or vehicles, in general, will be of assistance.

Meanwhile, if you’re applying for a job as a mechanic, you will definitely need to list any experience that proves you know your way around an engine. Any specialty training or even previous experience working in a shop will be to your benefit

Once you knock the application out of the park, you’ll be asked to come in for an interview. While this can be a little intimidating, there are ways to prepare. For example, you may want to do a practice interview with friends and family members. That way you can go into the interview a little bit more relaxed.

When you show up to the interview, make sure you’re dressed professionally. Even though mechanic and trucking positions aren’t necessarily known for being extremely formal, it’s still important to set the right tone with your potential boss!

Does TransAm Trucking do background checks?

TransAm Trucking does do background checks.

However, there are some things that you will want to know that change based on where you live.

For example, some states don’t look back further than seven years. Here are those states:

  • Washington*

(*States with asterisks may have different background check rules depending on the pay bracket.)

There are also states that will only include crimes that you were found guilty of. If you live in any of these places, you won’t need to worry about not guilty convictions showing up in the background check.

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana (limited check)
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

Unfortunately, though, there are still many states that include your entire background. This even includes cases where you were found not guilty. In these states, TransAm gets to learn about everything:

What felonies TransAm Trucking will not hire

The company didn’t share this with us. Howevever, we used our trucking industry expertise to figure out some chages that will hold you back. See next.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

All of the jobs involve heavy equipment and/or driving, so any substance abuse offenses will probably be held against you. They may also be concerned with any offenses having to do with a vehicle.

Sex offenses on your record can bar you because of state law restrictions. Finally, people who have been convicted of theft may also have a hard time getting hired at TransAm Trucking.

Trucking companies want to be certain that their cargo is safe and therefore often resist hiring people convicted of stealing.

Does TransAm Trucking hire sex offenders?

They might, but it’s an unknown at this point. The company hasn’t said, and we couldn’t find any reliable responses.

Does TransAm Trucking drug test?

They do! It’s actually usually required by law that trucking companies test applicants before finalizing a hire.
