Does Univision hire felons?

Official company policy for hiring felons

When we asked Univision about their policy concerning hiring former felons, they declined to answer. They did, however, wish Relaunch Pad “the very best in [our] program’s efforts.”

We would have liked a better response than that, but not every company is going to be open to answering these questions. Instead, we have to rely on our research to answer your questions.

Have they hired felons in the past?

They didn’t say. Neither could our research, unfortunately. We found no evidence that they’ve hired former felons before. However, that doesn’t mean they haven’t.

Does Univision hire people with misdemeanors?

We couldn’t find any information about whether or not Univision hires those with misdemeanors, and the company didn’t offer any answers to this question.

Will Univision hire you with pending charges?

Univision didn’t tell us explicitly if they’ll hire someone with pending charges, but there’s a chance they will considering they’ll hire previously convicted felons.

What are the chances of Univision hiring a felon?

Is Univision on the Ban the Box list?

Have you heard of the Ban the Box campaign or the Fair Chance Business Pledge? Both have been working hard over the last few years to get rid of or lower the barriers those with a criminal record face when looking for employment.

Ban the Box works hard to convince employers to leave criminal history questions off of their employment application so that former felons have a chance to get further in the hiring process. The Fair Chance Business Pledge encourages employers to offer more opportunities to those with criminal histories within their companies.

Univision doesn’t ask about your criminal history on their application, but they’re not supporters of either movement.

Does Univision have any special programs for hiring felons?

Univision didn’t tell us if they have programs geared towards hiring felons, and we doubt they do. However, always check with your local unemployment office as well as job placement agencies in your area. They almost always have programs and companies they partner with that hire felons.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

Low likelihood of hiring felons

We think you have low odds of getting hired at Univision with a felony. We base our assessment on the response the company provided us, as well as our own independent research. If you’re passionate about working in media, you may want to start somewhere else.

What are some entry-level jobs?

Univision’s hiring website shows us that there are plenty of employment opportunities. Most of the jobs listed require technical skills, high-level computer skills, or other advanced degrees.

However, they do have entry-level facilities jobs such as janitorial, maintenance and HVAC positions.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

If you do have a particular skill set that matches an available job at Univision, you should certainly apply. The application process is all online. Before you begin the process, make sure your resume is ready. It’s the first thing they ask for in the process.

We know that your resume may not look great right now — if you even have one — but that’s okay. We’ve created a guide to help you create a resume that will stand out. We want you to know that you probably have more marketable skills than you think.

When you think back to your time in prison, consider all of the jobs you held and the classes you took. How many of them taught you valuable skills? If you took a vocation class, then you gained valuable trade experience. If you held a job in the prison, then you learned communication and teamwork skills.

Were there times when you had to solve a problem or a disagreement between two people? The very nature of prison means you probably picked up valuable negotiation skills.

If Univision asks you to come in for an interview, remember that first impressions count.

Make sure you have a nice set of clothes to wear to an interview and be sure to show up fully groomed. This means making sure you have a fresh haircut and trimming your facial hair. Brush your teeth and make sure you have deodorant on. If you have any tattoos, cover them up the best you can. We don’t know their official policy regarding tattoos, but you don’t want their first thought when they see you to be, “Has this person done time?”

It would be smart to practice answering some basic interview questions in the mirror before you go. Here are some to get you started:

  • Do you have any experience in this area?
  • What do you think you can contribute to the company?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?

You should also be fully prepared to answer questions about your criminal record, including the nature of your charges. Think of this as a chance to show how you’ve grown, so talk up the things you’ve done to improve yourself. How to get hired at Univision with a felony largely depends on your responses in an application and interview.

Does Univision do background checks?

Company ratings

Univision has a 3.0 rating out of a possible 5 on the website glassdoor.com, and only half of the respondents would recommend working there to a friend.

Many people loved the work environment and their coworkers. They said it is a great place to start a career in media. They also appreciated the mission of the company, which is to serve the Hispanic and Spanish speaking community.

The main complaints revolve around management and the lack of advancement opportunities into supervisory positions. These are pretty common complaints, though you’ll want to keep in mind promotions will be hard to get.
